This week marked the end of a chapter that Ross Abinanti may never remember and one that his family wouldn’t mind forgetting.
Abinanti was discharged from a rehabilitation center and entered his new home at a 24-hour care facility on Sept. 22, a decision his family came to grips with after this ordeal, realizing that they cannot properly care for the 63-year-old, who suffers from severe dementia.
It’s been almost three months since Abinanti went missing in downtown Campbell, prompting a wide-ranging search that ended when Abinanti was found lying disheveled and dehydrated in a Saratoga dry creek bed 10 days later.
Police believe Abinanti remained at the creek the entire time he was missing, but the family has been able to get few details from Abinanti himself.
“I don’t think we’ll ever know what happened, and I’m OK with it because I’m just so glad he got found alive and he made it through,” said Marciel Abinanti, who spoke publicly for the first time about her husband.
